Summary
- Microsoft has delayed the latest security patch due to undisclosed compatibility issues with some devices.
- The details of the issues are unknown, and the company is working on providing a fixed version.
- Microsoft usually rushes out security fixes, but this delay is an abnormality indicating its seriousness.
For some, Patch Tuesday is an exciting time to check out new features, absorb the new UI changes, and see what Microsoft has planned for the future of Windows. For others, it’s a nightmare. After all, when you’re part of the tech team for a large company and Microsoft pushes out an update that could very well send PCs into BSODs, boot loops, and other annoying issues, Patch Tuesday is more like wearing a potentially disastrous storm. And it’s usually disastrous.
Well, this month’s Patch Tuesday is no different, as the company has already claimed that it’s delaying the patch for specific devices due to an undisclosed issue. As such, if you don’t have the latest update yet, there’s a good chance Microsoft is busy getting you the fixed version ASAP.

Microsoft applies the brakes to a security patch on the same day it releases
Today, Microsoft published a swathe of security updates for Windows as part of the monthly routine called Patch Tuesday. Usually, Microsoft is adamant that people download and install these ASAP, as they contain fixes for discovered exploits and issues. However, the company has had to delay the latest security fixes after identifying something was wrong.
What’s the issue? We’re not sure. As a Microsoft support official told Windows Latest, the new patch suffered “compatibility issues with some devices,” and…that’s about the extent of what Microsoft said. We’re not sure what these compatibility issues are, nor do we know what devices are affected; however, the support official reassured everyone that it’s already working on getting a patch ready for Patch Tuesday’s compatibility issues:
“We identified a problem that affects a small number of devices. This update [KB5060842] is being gradually rolled out to devices running Windows 11, version 24H2. We’ve identified a compatibility issue affecting a limited set of these devices. If your device is affected, you’ll receive a revised update with all the June 2025 security improvements in the near term.
Windows Latest notes that they’ve “never seen Microsoft throttle Windows security updates before,” and I have to agree. These updates are usually pushed to people’s PCs ASAP to protect them from exploits and flaws that Microsoft has been made aware of. As such, I can’t imagine Microsoft will take too long fixing this patch, as it must reach people’s computers to protect them from cyberattacks.
