The Pixel 9 Pro XL, my favourite phone of 2024, is down to its lowest-ever price

At Tech Advisor, we always like to say that the best phone you can buy isn’t always the right one for you. 

That applies to us journalists, too. So, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra was the deserving winner of our best smartphone of 2024 award, my favourite device was the Pixel 9 Pro XL. 

It helps that I spent three months using it as my main handset, so I came to appreciate all the small benefits that aren’t necessarily apparent. Even now, it’s the phone I keep going back to after I’ve finished a review. 

However, while I’d recommend it at the full £1,099 starting price, I realise it can be hard to justify spending that much on a phone. So, imagine my excitement when I saw that the Pixel 9 Pro XL had dropped to just £799 at Amazon, its lowest ever price.  

This mega £400 discount applies to all four colours: Hazel, Obsidian, Porcelain and Rose Quartz. And if you need more than 128GB of storage, there’s also £300 off both the 256GB and 512GB models. 

What’s more, Amazon Prime members can get free next-day delivery. Depending on when you’re reading this, it could be at your door tomorrow. 

Prime costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year, but if you’ve never signed up before, you can get a free 30-day trial. 

Just make sure you take advantage of this Pixel 9 Pro XL deal while you still can. There’s no expiry date, but it’s listed as a ‘Limited time deal’, so it isn’t likely to be around for long.

What makes the Pixel 9 Pro XL so good?

The Pixel 9 Pro XL is one of the very few phones to excel when it comes to both hardware and software. It has a gorgeous 6.8-inch display, strong battery life from the 5060mAh cell and the best point-and-shoot cameras you’ll find on any phone. 

Android 15 on the Pixel is about as accomplished and polished as smartphone software gets right now, with loads of great features, including plenty of AI. 

To top it off, Google is offering six more years of OS and security updates, and it’ll be first in line for Android 16 when it’s released soon. 

And while a successor in the Pixel 10 Pro XL is reportedly on the way soon, the current model should be a great phone for many years to come. You certainly won’t get the newer phone at a price like this anytime soon, anyway.
