Sky unveils Glass Gen 2 smart TV and surprise future Glass Air model

Sky has officially unveiled the Glass Gen 2 as its latest smart TV to upgrade your living room.

Unveiled today in Central London, the new TV will replace the current Sky Glass when it goes on sale tomorrow, 12 February 2025. You can order it from Sky, and it will also be available via Currys later this month.

Some of the biggest changes to this generation of TVs include a brighter 4K HDR Quantum Dot panel, with better contrast and a wider viewing angle thanks to more LEDs and more dimming zones, with less blooming.

The ambient light sensor will help optimise the picture quality for the environment. However, it is a 60Hz panel, rather than a hoped-for 120Hz upgrade for smoother gaming but you do get ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).

The TV runs Sky OS and once again doesn’t need a satellite dish like Sky Q, just internet access. Sky has added Vivid and Extra Vivid picture presets and “knows what’s on and will automatically optimise the picture and sound accordingly.”

The soundbar has been fine-tuned, with seven speakers rather than the six on the original thanks to the dual-channel subwoofer (previously single firing), creating richer bass, clearer vocals and better spacial sound.

It remains a 3.1.2 channel audio configuration for Dolby Atmos.

It’s made from the same anodised aluminium as the first-generation, though the colour choice isn’t as wide this time.

There are three options rather than five: Atlantic Blue, Volcanic Black and Arctic Grey – the speaker will now match the TV, rather than offering mix-and-match options for customers.

Sky

Easy set-up is key for Sky, and this is reflected in the build changes. You won’t need a screwdriver to set up the TV, as it has built-in prongs on the base that the TV can just slot on. If you prefer a wall mount, it will also fit with any standard bracket.

Both the stand and Glass Gen 2 TV are also lighter, which should make set-up easier – especially if your TV is needed to get up some stairs.

The pricing is the same as the current Sky Glass, which is as follows:

• Sky Glass 43-inch – £14 per month
• Sky Glass 55-inch – £19 per month
• Sky Glass 65-inch – £24 per month

That’s just the price of the hardware, and must also be paired with an entertainment package – Sky offers a range starting from £15 per month. It all runs on Sky OS.

What is Sky Glass Air?

But that’s not all – Sky also confirmed that a brand-new, cheaper model will launch later this year. It’s called Sky Glass Air.

While Sky didn’t confirm the exact pricing just yet, we do know it will still be a 4K, Quantum Dot TV, with 2.0 speakers with Dolby Sound. It does appear to not include the integrated soundbar seen on the more premium model.

It will run Sky OS and come in three colours: Carbon Grey, Cotton White and Sea Green, and the same three sizes seen on the Sky Glass Gen 2.

If paired with Sky Essential TV, it makes Sky TV a more affordable package for customers – though prices for Sky TV and broadband are increasing.
