Smeg’s Soda Maker launched on 1 May and it’s just as beautiful as the brand’s other countertop appliances. But there’s a crucial difference: its price point won’t give you a stroke. That’s unlike the brand’s gorgeous air fryer oven, which will set you back £849.95.
Admittedly, the Soda Maker is not exactly cheap. It’s £149.95, including gas canister and recycled Tritan plastic bottle, and you can buy it from Smeg online.
It’s a cordless appliance that doesn’t require electricity, although you’ll still have full control of the bubbles thanks to its carbonisation dial. It has a magnetic drip tray and nestled underneath is a QR code, which you can scan for help and operational advice.
The bottle that comes along with it is 50% recycled plastic and it’s reusable and dishwasher-safe. You’ll be able to buy more bottles from Smeg, although we couldn’t yet spot them online.

It comes in four colour options: storm blue, emerald green, black and white. As its dimensions are a tidy 42 x 13.5 x 24.5cm, it should be easy enough to find it a spot on your countertop – you will, after all, want to show it off.
But its price isn’t a huge amount more than SodaStream’s luxe model, the Art, which is £139.99 at full price, although it’s currently on offer from the SodaStream website for just £79.99.

And the Smeg model is just so much better looking than the Art, although we did love that when we reviewed it.
If these models aren’t quite right for you, but you’d like bubbles for summer, check out our reviews of the plug-in SodaStream E-Terra and the OmniFizz, which can carbonate any drink, not just water.
