It looks like Android could be introducing a feature Apple debuted not too long ago – but with its own spin. The feature in question is notification summaries, something Apple brought in with Apple Intelligence.
This AI-powered tool gives you a quick rundown of your notifications, rather than showing them all in full. While it sounds like a useful addition, Android Headlines claims that Apple’s version has had its fair share of issues, often struggling with accuracy.
Google now seems to be working on a similar feature for Android. Recent discoveries in the Android 16 beta 3, spotted by Android Authority, suggest that a notification summary feature and a settings page to manage it are in the works.
However, there could be a key difference between the Apple and Google approaches.

Unlike Apple, which summarises all types of notifications, Google’s version appears to focus solely on conversation notifications. This means the AI will only summarise messages from WhatsApp, Google Messages, and similar messaging apps.
Since most app notifications are already short and to the point, it seems like a pretty good idea to focus entirely on making messages easier to manage, especially since they can pile up quickly and take time to read.
Given Apple’s said struggles with accuracy, Google has a chance to do it right and perhaps do a better job. The same may be true of Gemini, which, in light of Apple again delaying a major Siri update, may prove to be a better AI assistant. It’s already confirmed to replace Google Assistant for good.
