What to expect from Diablo IV throughout 2025

With April well under way, Blizzard has released a Diablo 4 roadmap, teasing what the rest of the year looks like for the

live-service
dungeon crawler. Shared with IGN as part of an interview with game director Brent Gibson, the roadmap doesn’t provide a ton of details, but it does line up what the themes of each season will be, along with teases for crossover collabs, and new permanent content updates. The roadmap also reaffirms that the next major Diablo 4 expansion won’t be released until 2026, which had been previously announced (via GameSpot). While Blizzard has been diligently updating Diablo 4 since launch, some fans are unhappy with the state of the game, especially when compared to Path of Exile 2

The roadmap was broken down by seasons, which last about three months for Diablo 4, which is how we’ve broken down the roadmap as well. The image shared also includes the first season of 2025 on it, but with that set to end soon, we went ahead and started with the new season beginning in April.

What’s new?

  • Boss Powers
  • Apparition Incursion Activity
  • Earnable Feline Pet

Season 8 of Diablo 4 will kick off in later April, bringing new seasonal powers and quests. This season is listed as Boss Powers, which should mean getting abilities from bosses, from both Diablo 4 and previous Diablo games, usually in the form of new special loot. These powers typically last for a single season. There aren’t any more details, but it appears as though a new endgame activity will also be introduced as part of Season 8, along with an earnable pet.

There are also permanent updates coming, that will be present outside of just the seasonal realm, which includes new bosses; Belial, Urivar, and Harbinger. There will also be improvements to the Season Journey, which is a series of tasks you need to complete in order to earn battle pass experience and limited-time items. This season will also see at least two events, one a crossover with a different IP, and while no tease of what it is, Gibson said it would fit with the vibe of Diablo 4. The other event is the two-year anniversary, which will likely include some limited-time rewards.

Sins of the Horadrim – July to September

New Nightmare Dungeon activities and mouse and keyboard for consoles.

What’s new?

  • Horadric Powers
  • Dungeon Escalation
  • Earnable Pet

Season 9 of Diablo 4 will arrive in July, with this season featuring Horadric Powers, which are a group of magi tasked with sealing away the prime evils. This could mean angelic powers or ancient magic. Dungeon Escalation is something that Gibson teases in the interview, describing it as a way to mix up the variety and challenge of dungeons, like Nightmare Dungeons, giving players more incentives to play each season. There will also be another earnable pet, but no tease of what type of animal people can expect.

This season also includes permanent updates to Nightmare Dungeons in addition to the Dungeon Escalation system, along with the long-awaited addition of mouse and keyboard support for consoles. There is also a tease of “and more,” which isn’t present on the first two seasons in the roadmap, so there is likely more for Blizzard to announce.

Infernal Chaos – September to December

Chaos powers and Infernal Hordes updates.

What’s new?

  • Chaos Powers
  • Infernal Hordes Update
  • Earnable Pet

For Season 10 of Diablo 4, Blizzard is planning a season around Chaos Powers. While exactly what that means is unclear, it should come with a new faction reputation for the season, along with some kind of new seasonal activity. Infernal Hordes, a wave-based horde mode that is a good source of loot and resources is getting an update. Gibson didn’t specify the changes, but he did say the team would be giving the activity some love and adding more player options and control to the mode.

While this season just lists “More to come” at the end, it does list a second IP crossover event. While we should have a better idea of what this looks like after the first event, Gibson did say the team is “avoiding the French Fries sword at all costs,” and talked about the immersion breaking that some of the more outlandish crossovers can cause, something the Diablo 4 team wants to avoid.

2026

Details are light, but expect the next expansion, leaderboards, and a new ranking system.

What’s new?

  • New Expansion
  • New Ranking System
  • Leaderboards

As for Diablo 4 in 2026, we know that there will be a new expansion and a new ranking system. What exactly that means–and when exactly in 2026 those things happen–remains unclear. However, the ranking system is likely tied to new leaderboards, giving dedicated players a new goal to strive for each season.

The new expansion is the most exciting part of the roadmap. No details are given–although the roadmap pretty clearly says a new class is coming–but based on previous Diablo expansions, there will be new story acts, a new area, and a new class. There will also be more endgame activities and new loot to find as well, although for the time being it’s hard to know when in 2026 fans can expect the expansion. That said, this roadmap may get built out later in 2025, potentially at the

Xbox showcase
in June.
