7 best Soulsborne bosses that should be in Elden Ring Nightreign

After getting their hands on Elden Ring Nightreign during the network test, many players are eager to return to the Lands Between and take on the newest challenge From Software has created. With anticipation at an all-time high, many are speculating what bosses From Software could pull out of its previous titles and what changes could be made. Will we be seeing another new iteration of Ornstein and Smough? How about another gimmick fight similar to the Storm King from Demon Souls? There are plenty of bosses that From Software could use for Nightreign and here are the ones that deserve it the most.

7

Artorias and Sif

The greatest pair of all time

Few boss fights are as memorable as Artorias and the Great Grey Wolf Sif. The pair fought together, but you never get to challenge them as one boss despite that. Instead, you fight Sif in the base game of the original Dark Souls and Artorias in the DLC. Those who decided to fight Artorias and free Sif first were treated to a cutscene when fighting Sif where she recognized them.

If From Software really wants to bring back the pain of fighting this pair, it should do so by making you fight them together. Not only that, but Artorias should be at full strength. After all, his arm is broken when you fight him in the original Dark Souls. With the pair together and fighting at full strength, it would be a boss fight to remember, especially with the increased movement and fighting mechanics in Elden Ring.

The Four Kings

There are actually five

The Four Kings is a strange fight from the original Dark Souls. After falling into the abyss, you are met by an illuminated gray figure. If you manage to defeat this entity fast enough, you won’t be ganged up on by a second one. Likewise, defeating the second fast enough will prevent you from needing to worry about fighting multiple at one time as they slowly appear throughout the fight. If you don’t defeat each of these bosses fast enough, you can find yourself fighting five of them at once in a rather unforgiving fight.

From Software should bring back the Four Kings but have players fight all five entities at one time. Since there are three players in a match, it shouldn’t be too difficult to separate the bosses and have each player fight one or two at a time. All things considered, it would make the fight more fair. If a player is fighting solo, they can deal with two bosses at once instead.

5

The Pursuer

I want to be pursued

One of the most memorable bosses from Dark Souls 2 is the Pursuer. A menacing presence that you fight near the beginning of the game that ultimately ends up returning throughout the game to ruin your day time and time again. Imagine, if you will, the Pursuer finding his way into Nightreign. He spawns similarly to Morgott, who chases you around the map, but if you manage to escape, he disappears just like he does in Dark Souls 2. Unfortunately, if you enter a new location, he spawns again and hunts you down.

This continues, spawning in a random place in each location you visit until you defeat him. You never know where he is; you just know that he is lurking somewhere nearby. This would make the Pursuer a more deranged enemy and one that would be more amusing to fight.

Looking Glass Knight

Looking right back at you

The Looking Glass Knight was a great concept in Dark Souls 2, but it ultimately became underwhelming once players discovered how to easily deal with him. When playing online, the Looking Glass Knight would summon variants of other players to fight you by having them spawn from his shield. When playing offline, however, this turned into a simple NPC that wasn’t very strong, trivializing the fight for many.

I think that it is time From Software took another look at the Looking Glass Knight and gave him a rework. How? Well, instead of having him summon invaders, have him create copies of each of the players’ current builds. Since the bosses in Nightreign are randomized, players wouldn’t know whether to remove their gear before the fight. Therefore, the Looking Glass Knight could steal each player’s build and use it against them by summoning exact copies of them in what I imagine would be a rather intense fight.

Blood-Starved Beast

A bloody good time

The Blood-Starved Beast was one of my personal favorite fights in Bloodborne and one that I feel fits the Elden Ring style. Its fast-paced and erratic movements make it a difficult boss to contend with, and its blood obsession could be used against it thanks to magic and blood-infused weapons. When players first discovered this beast in Bloodborne, many were quick to get taken down by it – at least I was. After learning its weakness for blood, the boss becomes easier.

If From Software were to bring back any Bloodborne bosses, the Blood Starved Beast would make the most sense to me. It could be tied into lore as one of Mohg’s beasts, forever condemned to devour the blood of innocents. It could even be changed to have a deadlier poison effect and bleed attacks to make the fight more difficult. We could even be required to fight multiple at one time.

2

Yhorm the Giant

Take away the gimmick

One of the most memorable bosses from Dark Souls 3 is Yhorm. Unfortunately, this fight is also ruined by it being a gimmick fight where you use the Storm Ruler sword to take him down, similar to using the Serpent-Hunter Great Spear to fight Rykard in Elden Ring. This trivializes the fight, especially when you complete Siegward’s quest line and have him fighting alongside you.

It would be amazing to have to take down this mighty giant the old-fashioned way in Elden Ring Nightreign. Let three players go after this mighty warrior and see what happens. From Software could even add ways to allow players to climb Yhorm’s body to attack him from different angles. This would make the fight even more memorable.

Black Dragon Kalameet

The baddest of the bad

Kalameet was the bane of many players’ existence when the Artorias of the Abyss DLC was released for Dark Souls. This mighty dragon can be seen flying around the DLC, but only after having Hawkeye Gough shoot one of the dragon’s wings can you actually fight it. When you enter the arena, you are welcomed by the most difficult boss in the game and one that many would love to see get redone myself included.

Kalameet has many dangerous attacks and even has the Mark of Calamity ability, which makes it so you take twice the damage when marked. I feel that it is best in the context of Elden Ring to bring back some of the old dragon bosses. After all, From Software games have always had great dragon fights. Now that we have seen what bosses such as Bayle can do, it is time to revive a classic fight and give players an even greater challenge.

So many bosses to choose from

These were only six bosses from the Soulsborne series that I would personally love to see get brought back in new ways. With over 100 bosses to choose from across the series, it is difficult to imagine which bosses From Software will decide to bring back. We already know that the Nameless King, Centipede Demon, and the Duke’s Dear Freja are coming back. Hopefully, we will get even more iconic fights, such as Kalameet, Artorias, Sif, and the Pursuer. After all, these bosses have been some of the best the series has to offer.
