Soulslikes are some of my favorite games. Since I first got into the genre via Dark Souls 2, I have had that itch to throw myself at the most difficult bosses and emerge victorious. Thanks to Elden Ring Nightreign, I am craving that Soulslike experience more than ever. Thankfully, there are plenty to choose from that are currently on the market. There are even more coming out, and even some DLC is being made.
Elden Ring Nightreign comes out on May 30, 2025. Until then, we are all left high and dry, waiting for additional information. If you are craving that Soulslike experience like I am or just want to try out a Soulslike game for yourself, now is the perfect time. Here are some of the best games I am playing while I wait for the release of Elden Ring Nightreign.

Lies of P
Twisted Pinocchio
Lies of P has been out for a while now, and it is still as good as it was on day one, if not better. Developer Neowiz put a ton of work into this game, and it shows that each of the weapons feels unique, and the environments are as dark and menacing as anything you would find in a From Software title. Lies of P, of course, follows the story of Pinocchio after a phenomenon caused the puppets of Krat to go wild. It is your job to survive the city and seek safety.
Despite being an indie title, Lies of P is one of the best Soulslike titles around. It also has unique features such as lying, which alters the ending of the story. Another unique feature of Lies of P is Pinocchio’s mechanical arm, which can be switched out to use various special abilities. This game is great to pick up now as well because a DLC is coming in the summer. This is perfect because you can then take a break from Nightreign for the DLC.

Demon’s Souls Remake
Back to where it all started
Demon’s Souls is the game that started the Souls series and the game that all Soulslikes stem from. While the original title holds a special place in my heart, the remake created by Bluepoint is everything I could have asked for and more. All the stages have been beautifully remade, as well as all the epic fights that appear throughout.
I have periodically jumped back into Demon’s Souls since it was released to try out new builds and explore the gorgeous environments. Each time I have, it gives me a solid reminder of where the Souls series began and how amazing the newer titles are. With that being said, it is a great way to get used to the Soulslike formula, especially if you are new to the series or just never gave this one a chance.

Bloodborne
A faster-paced Souls title
One of my personal favorite Souls games is Bloodborne. Also created by From Software, this title focuses on more rapid combat and dodging attacks. Instead of being equipped with a shield, your secondary weapon is typically a gun. These guns have various effects and can down foes when the shots are timed correctly, leaving them open for stronger visceral attacks.
Bloodborne is a great game to play while waiting for Nightreign because it will get you used to fast-paced boss battles and tense moments. There is nothing like dodging enemies with Gatling guns while dealing with beasts to prepare you for the onslaught of enemies that are found throughout Nightreign.

Elden Ring
Because it never gets old
If you are like me, you never get tired of a good Souls title. From Software knows how to craft an amazing experience, and nothing beats the world of Elden Ring. Each of the environments feels unique. The enemies are brutal yet fair, and the bosses are magnificent. Elden Ring is the culmination of everything From Soft has been working on since the release of the original Demon’s Souls, and the work the developers put into it shows.
Since Nightreign is the next evolution of Elden Ring, there is no better way to get hyped for the next From Soft title. If you are new to Elden Ring, explore every nook and cranny so you know what types of environments and enemies to expect in Nightreign. If you have already beaten Elden Ring, try out a challenge run or a different build. After all, in Nightreign, you are forced to use whatever weapons you manage to pick up, so using different weapon types will help you get used to this new game style.
Soulslike games never get old
My first Souls game was Dark Souls 2. I remember dying over and over again as I learned the formula, leveled up, and collected new weapons. As I dove into each Soulslike experience, from games created by the Dark Souls masters, From Soft, to games made by smaller indie studios, I have loved every second of it. There are a lot of titles for you to try out if you are eager to get a taste of that Soulslike experience before the release of Elden Ring Nightreign.
