NAKSHA launched in 152 ULBs across India; Arahas provides tech to modernize urban land records – ET Government

Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, inaugurates Naksha in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday. Saurabh Rai, CEO of ARAHAS, is also seen.

RAISEN (Madhya Pradesh): Gurugram-based Arahas Technologies, a provider of sustainability technology, geospatial, and AI services, said it has contributed to the National Geospatial Knowledge-Based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) — a transformative initiative launched by the Government of India to modernize urban land records across the country.

This ambitious ₹194 crore pilot program, inaugurated by Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, aims to create and update land records in 152 urban local bodies (ULBs) across 26 states and three Union Territories.

The primary objective of Naksha is to ensure accurate and reliable documentation of land ownership, thereby empowering citizens, enhancing urban planning, and reducing land-related disputes.

The NAKSHA program is a collaborative effort, with the Survey of India serving as the technical partner responsible for conducting aerial surveys and providing accurate imagery. The Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation (MPSEDC) is developing an end-to-end web-GIS platform, while the National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI) provides storage facilities. State and UT governments will conduct field surveys and ground truthing using the provided imagery, leading to the final publication of urban and semi-urban land records.

Speaking on this milestone, Saurabh Rai, CEO of ARAHAS, said, “The NAKSHA project is a crucial step toward building a digitally empowered land governance framework in India. We believe that advanced geospatial intelligence can drive more efficient urban development, ensuring fair land use, reducing disputes, and fostering economic growth. We are proud to collaborate with stakeholders in this initiative and look forward to contributing to a more structured, transparent, and data-driven urban ecosystem.”

He also stated that Arahas remains dedicated to leveraging geospatial intelligence, remote sensing, and digital twin technology to support national initiatives that pave the way for progressive urbanization and smarter cities.
