From: Women’s Center
To celebrate Women’s Month in March, the Women’s Center announces a calendar of programs and events that is so full it’s actually starting in February. Please join us for our kick-off event on February 27.
Canine Power: The Extraordinary Life of Rudolphina Menzel
Tuesday, February 27, 5:00 p.m., 101S Classroom in Newman Library
Susan Kahn, associate director at the Julis-Rabinowitz Program on Jewish and Israeli Law at Harvard Law School, shares the life story of Rudolphina Menzel, a Jewish scientist from Vienna who pioneered research on canine psychology, development, and behavior that fundamentally shaped our understanding of dogs. After emigrating to Palestine in 1938, Menzel established the canine infrastructure of what became the state of Israel and made discoveries about canine behavior that continue to influence the field today. Join Kahn to hear a unique story illustrating the complicated modern histories of women in science, human interaction with canines, and Jewish history in Europe and the Middle East. This event is sponsored by the Department of Religion and Culture and the Women’s Center.

The WoMo24 calendar is filled with engaging programs, events, and initiatives that advance and celebrate women at Virginia Tech and beyond. You will find musical performances, artist talks, scholarly presentations, exhibitions, donation drives, rallies, workshops, networking opportunities, and much more. Events are happening in Blacksburg, Roanoke, and the Greater Washington DC area. Many programs have a virtual option available.
Women’s Month recognizes, affirms, and showcases the achievements, concerns, and diversity of women. A feminist perspective — one that encourages and advances women of all races, political affiliations, national origins, religions, ages, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and income levels — underlies all our programming. The annual event occurs in March in conjunction with National Women’s History Month, the theme for which is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.”
Women’s Month has historically represented Virginia Tech’s broad commitment to celebrating diverse and inclusive communities. To honor this ongoing commitment, the Women’s Month 2024 calendar highlights programs and events aligned with the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.
