Black Sun Productions will launch Metamorphosis VR on October 10

Virtual reality studio Black Sun Productions announced it will launch its first title, Metamorphosis VR, a dreamlike narrative adventure-platformer inspired by Franz Kafka’s legendary novella The Metamorphosis.

The mind-bending story of Metamorphosis VR will launch for Meta Quest 2 and 3 on October 10, 2024.

The game is billed as a bold reinvention of the award-winning 2020 PC game, Metamorphosis, from Ovid Works and Untold Tales. Set against the backdrop of 1900s Vienna, players assume the role of Gregor, a traveling salesman who, after a night on the town, finds himself transformed into a cockroach. Lost in a strange new world, he must seek a way to save his closest friend and regain his humanity.

“We chose Metamorphosis as our debut title for Black Sun because its surreal, Kafkaesque world – some of the richest and most immersive environments imagined – offers a perfect opportunity to bring this extraordinary experience to virtual reality,” said Corbin Chase, CEO of Black Sun Productions, in a statement. “One of VR’s most powerful abilities is how it changes our perspective and sense of scale, and Metamorphosis uniquely combines confusion, bewilderment, wonder and beauty. All imparted by that shift in perspective, it feels like this game was always meant for VR.”

Players embark on a journey between the walls and floorboards – where bug philosophers, insect mob bosses, and creepy-crawly thespians reside. A rich and diverse cast of over 100 insect characters, each with their own voice, multiple endings, bizarre locations to discover and more, all presented in high-fidelity graphics with textures that make for a surreal, disquieting atmosphere.

The title will be released on October 10, 2024, on Meta Quest 2 and 3 for $20. The game has been rated T (Teen) by the ESRB.
