Key Takeaways

  • Content creators in Europe will participate in a 24-hour continuous unboxing stream of Surging Sparks cards.

The Pokemon franchise wants to hit another huge milestone, with the Pokemon Trading Card Game fans attempting a Guinness world record.

The Pokemon TCG has had a huge couple of years, with an incredible boom (followed by a drop) in rare card prices, as well as the release of the popular Pokemon TCG Pocket, which brings a scaled-down version to mobile phones.

Card unboxing videos are a big hit online and The Pokemon Company is going for the biggest one yet. On November 21, a huge streaming event will attempt the longest unboxing video ever.

Over the course of twenty-four hours, content creators will participate in one continuous unboxing stream on YouTube and Twitch. This event will also host special prize giveaways for viewers.

The unboxing will involve the Pokemon TCG’s Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks set, which prominently features Gen 9 ‘Mons.

Surging Sparks also features powerful new Pokemon ex cards, as well as Stellar Tera ex cards that reflect the Terastal mechanics from the video games, which are immune to damage while on the Bench.

The unboxing event itself involves content creators throughout the Europe, with streamers from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain taking part.

“The Pokémon Company International is teaming up with content creators across Europe to smash a Guinness World Record world record for the longest live unboxing.”

The biggest unboxing Guinness world record might seem like a strange thing to attempt, but it could be a case of responding to Pokemon TCG’s rivals.

Magic: The Gathering holds the world record for the most played TCG, while in 2024, Yu-Gi-Oh! earned a world record for the biggest live TCG event.

In an era where the fight for trading card game fans’ cash is at an all-time high, it’s only natural that Pokemon would want to prove how important it is compared to the competition.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Just Seems Pointless To Me

“What if cards but digital” isn’t that compelling.

With Pokemon TCG Pocket introducing new players to the game via its more approachable format, this world record attempt could attract newbies who are interested in the physical version of the game.

Considering the length of the event, the people taking part are probably going to pulling lots of rare cards. The only question is whether that can be entertaining enough for twenty-four hours straight.
