Yennefer's future in The Witcher 4 officially detailed

The Witcher 4 has been out of the spotlight since it was announced that CD Projekt was ramping up its production on the title in November 2024. As of Wednesday (April 30th), the game is set to release in 2027. However, things have gotten quite interesting as of late.

Fans are curious to see where CD Projekt decides to take the story after it was revealed that Ciri would be taking over as the game’s hero, while Geralt will still play a role in the game’s narrative in some fashion. What wasn’t answered was how the remaining cast from The Witcher 3 would exist in the continued experience. And Denise Gough, the voice of the beautiful and mysterious Yennefer of Vengerberg, is wondering the same thing.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is going out with a bang with patch 8 release

Baldur’s Gate 3 has finally received it’s last update from Larian Studios. Here’s what’s inside.

What’s going on with Yennefer of Vengerberg in The Witcher 4?

During an interview with Eurogamer, the actress who is now offering her expertise to the character Imperial Officer Dedra Meero in the Star Wars series Andor, Gough explained that she doesn’t know if Yennefer would return in the next Witcher game.

The actress expressed that she is unsure of CD Projekt’s plans for the forthcoming title and her character. Taking it a step further, Gough admitted that Yennefer was her first role doing video game voice acting, and she didn’t know what she was actually doing with the character. In fact, she didn’t know she was doing voice acting lines for Geralt’s complicated flame.

“I don’t know any of this,” Gough said to Eurogamer in a new interview. “I didn’t know what I was doing…I’d never done a video game before. And then lots of, usually men, would come up to me in sound departments on film sets, would come up and go [whispering] ‘Are you Yennefer?’ And I was like, ‘Who’s Yennefer?'”

Fans of the beloved fantasy series know Yennefer as a part of The Witcher’s big three, along with Geralt and Ciri. Yennefer and Geralt have a complicated relationship, as was shown throughout the third installment of the video game series, with the two star-crossed lovers not ever knowing what they truly want.

Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see whether CD Projekt does bring back Gough for her synonymous role as the dark-haired sorceress. But it should be a no-brainer to bring back Yennefer of Vengerberg to continue the story that is a direct progression from the critically acclaimed Witcher 3. Well, we will just have to wait and see.
