A “consummate entry-level OLED” for under a grand? Yes, please!

I want to draw your attention to a review of a TV that’s received a chunky discount for Black Friday. The Philips OLED759 is one of the most affordable OLEDs released this year and the 48in model is currently available for £849 at various retailers, down from its RRP of £1,099.

TV expert John Archer rated it highly, describing it as “one of the most well-featured and flat-out fun gaming displays” he’s come across for under £1,000 in his Philips OLED759 review. High praise indeed from a man who’s been writing about televisions for over 25 years!

Very drops an early Black Friday Sharp TiVo TV treat

While 50in and 55in remain the go-to screen sizes for most homes, larger TVs are growing in popularity and this offer on the Sharp GK4 gets you a whopping great 70in QLED for under £500.

It’s not a model we’ve reviewed, so we can’t comment on how it performs, but the specs look great for the money. Three HDMI 2.1 ports, a quantum-dot powered LED panel, a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos mean it should deliver on the picture, audio and gaming fronts, while TiVo OS provides access to a wide range of streaming platforms and supports Freely.

Typically priced between £649 and £699, the 70in GK4 is available for just £489, which looks like fantastic value given what it brings to the table.

Become an AO member and get the incredible LG C4 at its lowest-ever price

Image of the 65in LG C4 OLED displaying Calman test footage

LG’s C Series OLED has been one of the most sought-after TVs in Black Fridays gone by and I anticipate the 2024 model – explosively named the C4 – to continue that trend.

It’s an incredible television capable of doing justice to any content you throw at it thanks to support for every HDR format and a great range of picture enhancement technologies. In his LG C4 review, Stephen Withers praised its exceptional accuracy, wide viewing angles and impressive reflection handling along with LG’s wonderful webOS smart system.

The C4 is an especially good choice for gamers. All four of its HDMI ports are of the 2.1 specification and support 4K@144Hz (despite the panel’s native resolution being 120Hz). LG’s Game Optimizer mode is one of the best around for elevating your OLED gaming experience and input lag is lightning-fast at just 5ms.

When Steve reviewed the LG C4, the 55in model cost £1,599. It’s come down steadily in price since then and has been hovering around £1,300 over the past couple of months. AO members (it’s free to sign up) can currently pick one up for £1,135, which is the cheapest I’ve ever seen it.

Don’t buy the Fire TV Omni QLED (for now)

The Amazon listing for the brand’s Fire TV Omni QLED television would have you believe that its various screen sizes are available at big discounts. But if you’re considering picking one up, I urge you to hold fire.

Not because the TV isn’t good – it’s a great mid-range QLED model that picked up a five-star rating from Stephen Withers – but because it’s likely to see larger price cuts as we get closer to Black Friday.

The 50in and 55in models cost £380 and £430 during Prime Day in October, which is significantly cheaper than the £480 and £520 they’re currently being sold for.

I’ll be posting details on this page if/when it receives a similar Black Friday price drop,  but for now, I’d recommend avoiding it if you don’t want to feel buyer’s remorse come the end of the month!

Save £200 on a five-star Mini LED TV from Hisense

Front view of the Hisense U8N Mini LED TV

The Hisense U8N received a five-star rating and our Recommended award when we reviewed the 65in model at £1,499. You can currently pick up that screen size for an enticing £1,299 at Amazon in what the retail giant describes as a “Limited Time deal”. Quite how long the deal will last remains to be seen but I expect it to run until at least Cyber Monday (2 December).

Packed with cutting-edge features, able to deliver extremely bright HDR images thanks to its quantum dot-enhanced Mini LED panel and with Freely on board to provide access to live and on-demand UK TV content, it’s a fantastic all-rounder if you’re after a big TV for your living room.

If £1,299 is a bit spendy, you might also wish to consider the 65in Hisense U7N, which has been discounted to £899, but the step-up model is vastly superior where picture quality is concerned.

Black Friday 2024, let’s go!

Hello and welcome to our coverage of this year’s Black Friday TV deals. Tech Editor Andy White reporting for duty to bring you the best bargains the internet has to offer. And what better place to start than with an all-time low price on one of our favourite TVs of the year?

Amazon currently has the 55in Samsung S95D listed for £1,548, which is £150 cheaper than it costs at Samsung and other third-party retailers including Currys and John Lewis.

TV reviewer Stephen Withers said the S95D “redefines what a 4K OLED TV can do in terms of image accuracy, colour gamut and HDR performance” and described it as a “very early contender for TV of the year” back in March. It’s still very much in that conversation eight months on and is an even more appealing option at its cheapest-ever price.
